Our Transportation System

Foothills School Division operates 67 school bus routes, five serving the Towns of Okotoks and High River and the remaining 62 serving rural areas and smaller communities.  Approximately 52% of our student population is transported daily with the bus fleet clocking a total of 11,500 travel kilometers per day.  The average ride time is 32 minutes for rural students and 18 minutes for those in town.

Foothills' employs 75 regular transportation staff consisting of drivers, mechanics, administration and an additional dozen or so "casual" staff employed primarily as spare bus drivers.  The cost to operate our student transportation service is over $3.4M per year and our capital investment in vehicles, equipment and facilities exceeds $7.5M.

A bus pass must be obtained prior to the first day of school.  To learn more about this process for students, click here.
