All of Foothills School Division’s schools have health and wellness programs and activities in place that fit their individual school communities and educational goals.
FSD School Health Champions come together throughout the year to share ideas and develop a deeper understanding of Comprehensive School Health, an internationally recognized framework for supporting improvements in students’ educational outcomes while addressing school health in a planned, integrated and holistic way.
Comprehensive School Health encompasses the whole school environment with actions addressing four distinct but inter-related pillars that provide a strong foundation:
- Social and Physical Environment — that supports students and staff in making healthy choices;
- Healthy School Policy — that promotes health and well-being, and shapes a respectful, welcoming and caring school environment;
- Partnerships and Services — supportive relationships within the school community (students, families and staff), and community and school-based services that promote and support wellness;
- Teaching and Learning — about health and well-being embedded in the curriculum and other school activities.
