Budget 2020-2021 Update
On Friday February 28, 2020, Foothills School Division (FSD) met with Alberta Education officials and received preliminary information on the 2020-21 provincial education budget. Although we did not receive the specific amount of money allocated to FSD, we were presented with the changes to the new K to 12 assurance education funding framework.
Additional consultation with government is required before we will receive the funding allotment and finalize our budget for the 2020-21 school year. The Division Team continues to examine changes to the K to 12 education funding framework and how they may affect FSD. In the interim, we are using the information to prepare different budgetary scenarios as we plan forward.
“The funding of public education is complex and we will need a little time to review the information received from the province. We are cautiously optimistic that this new framework will provide stability and predictability to Foothills School Division,” said Chris Fuzessy, Superintendent of Schools.
We continue to review how to best deliver programs and services within these new funding parameters. Our priority remains engagement, support and success for each student.
“Our commitment throughout the budget process is to maintain the high level of education that Foothills School Division consistently delivers to our students,” said Board Chair Larry Albrecht. “We are focused on providing quality education for each student.”
The Board and Executive Team continue to work through the budget planning process while reflecting upon the feedback we have received and continue to receive form the Foothills community. We look forward to the May 1, 2020 Assurance Engagement event aimed at gathering valued input to assist the Board and Executive Team to finalize the 2020 – 2021 budget and the 3-year Education Plan priorities.
