Superintendent Update June 26
Thank you for the level of support you have been able to provide your child and their teacher(s) since classes were canceled on March 15th by the Province of Alberta. Foothills School Division truly appreciates your efforts to support your child and their learning from home during these challenging times. We understand that this work has not always been easy, and we appreciate your partnership in ensuring a continuity of learning for our students, your children. Student success is a partnership and this pandemic has reinforced that relationship. Working together has made all the difference.
As we prepare for the 2020-21 school year, thank you for your contribution to our Relaunch Thought Exchange. We heard a strong message from students and parents that you are seeking a safe, caring, and welcoming return to school. We collectively value the essential student / teacher relationship and recognize that it is critical to student success.
Our School Relaunch Committee, consisting of parents, trustees, teachers, support staff, division office, and school leaders, has developed a FSD 2020-21 School Relaunch Handbook to help guide a safe return to school.
This work has been accomplished collaboratively with Alberta Health Services and includes recommendations from the Chief Medical Officer of Health as well as Alberta Education, and will continue to be updated regularly with new information.
Moving into the new school year, I would like to draw your attention to a few new routines that will be in place at the beginning of the year. You will have received this information as an insert in your child's Learner Profile. Please take a few moments to review these new school and family routines along with your children.
The province of Alberta will be communicating a re-entry scenario in early August. Please monitor your email and our website around that time as we will share information as it becomes available.
The Foothills School Division team looks forward to welcoming students back to our buildings at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. We have missed having students and staff busily engaged in learning in our schools, and look forward to celebrating a successful return to classes with all of you. Please enjoy a safe, happy, and restful summer season with family and friends.
