EFCHS / AHSFA Vice-Principal Announcement

Congratulation to Rona Reid who has been appointed to her first administrative assignment as Vice Principal at École Foothills Composite High School/Alberta High School of Fine Arts effective August 29, 2018. Vince Hunter, Principal, is excited to have Rona join his VP team including Kathryn Strilchuk and Derek Markides and the entire ÉFCHS/AHSFA community.
Rona joined Foothills in August 2016 as an Instructional Coach and over the past two years has provided instructional leadership and facilitated Professional Learning Communities in multiple schools across the system. Prior to joining Foothills Rona taught at J.A. Williams School in Lac La Biche and Westmount Charter School as a teacher, department head, ELL Coordinator, and as the High School Redesign Coordinator. She also is a Facilitator of College Preparation, Human Services and Criminal Justice with Columbia College where as part of her work she teaches preparation courses for Educational Assistants.
Rona holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick and a Masters of Education in Gifted Education/Curriculum & Leadership from University of Calgary. Her strengths in designing personalized learning, implementation and leading professional learning to support High School Redesign, establishing dual credit partnerships, planning for gifted students with dual exceptionalities, establishing awareness and understanding for First Nations, Metis and Inuit perspectives, and shifting to a Learning Commons philosophy with Makerspaces will all be welcome in this assignment.
Most recently Rona has been a member of Foothills School Division’s aspiring leadership program, Learning & Leading, which is designed to provide theoretical and practical experiences for aspiring leaders and develop a pool of quality candidates positioned to take on leadership opportunities in FSD schools.
We are confident that all stakeholders at ÉFCHS/AHSFA School will benefit from her deep educational knowledge and experience, support focused leadership, and unyielding belief that all kids can be intellectually engaged and learn at high levels.
